Construction to Start on Front Street, Magnolia Boulevard, and Varney Street

Construction to Start on Front Street, Magnolia Boulevard, and Varney Street

Lane closures are scheduled for January 26, 2026, with an end date to be determined.

Burbank Water and Power (BWP) will be installing a tunnel bore under the railroad to support new electric lines associated with the Front Street development.

Project Update (04/06/26)

Minor work will take place in April to relocate a utility that is currently in conflict, so tunneling can resume. This work will occur on Front St, on the Magnolia Bridge, and in the area beneath the bridge. Lane closures will be required, including temporary closures of the curb lane on the bridge. Please follow all posted traffic signs and use caution in construction zones.

Once a firm schedule for tunneling is confirmed, we will provide additional updates.

Construction Schedule

Lane closures:

Temporary lane closures may occur on Front Street, the Magnolia Bridge, and in the area beneath the bridge in April 2026.

Traffic Impacts

Front Street

  • Intermittent southbound lane closures on Front Street.
  • Daytime flaggers will direct traffic around the closure (including stopping northbound traffic as needed to allow southbound traffic through).
  • Front Street will be one-way traffic with flaggers during the day (intermittently).

Magnolia feeder road (near 10 W Magnolia)

  • The one-way eastbound Magnolia feeder road will be closed intermittently from January 26, 2026, to February 13, 2026.
  • The same feeder road will be closed 24/7 from February 2-13, 2026.
  • Detours will be provided via Varney from Cypress, using a one-way westbound lane, with flaggers allowing for two-way traffic.

Parking Restrictions

  • Parking restrictions may be in place 24/7 underneath and around the Magnolia Bridge, along Magnolia feeder roads, within work areas, and along detour routes.
  • Where needed, “Temporary No Parking Anytime” signs will be posted at least 48 hours before enforcement.
