The Home Improvement Program is on a brief pause, starting on July 1, 2026. Services are expected to be restored before August. You may sign up on the waitlist here, and Synergy will contact you when the program resumes.
What is the Refrigerator Exchange Program?
The Refrigerator Exchange Program provides a free energy efficient refrigerator to BWP residential customers who are enrolled in BWP’s rate assistance programs (Lifeline and BUSS). The existing refrigerator must still be working, be 10 years old (made in 2016) or older, and must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet. The program requires recycling of the old refrigerator, and BWP’s vendor Precision NRG will remove the old refrigerator for recycling when they deliver your new refrigerator. The program is limited to one refrigerator per household.
How the Refrigerator Exchange Program Works
- Confirm Eligibility. Participants must be enrolled in the Lifeline or BUSS rate assistance programs to qualify.
- Submit a request. Complete and submit the online Refrigerator Exchange Program request form.
- Schedule Your Exchange. Precision NRG will contact eligible participants to schedule a date for delivery and refrigerator exchange.
- Prepare Your Refrigerator. Before the scheduled exchange date, participants must disconnect the water line from their existing refrigerator, if applicable.
- Exchange Your Refrigerator. On the scheduled exchange date, Precision NRG or an authorized subcontractor will remove the old refrigerator and deliver and install the new ENERGY STAR®-certified refrigerator.

The products and services offered through the Home Improvement Program are 100% paid for by BWP and the Southern California Gas Company.
