Construction on the RITC Solar + Battery Project officially began in July 2025, marking a major milestone in Burbank’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future. Over the coming months, crews will install more than 4,000 solar panels and an advanced battery storage system. The construction phase is anticipated to be completed by May 2026, and will begin delivering zero-carbon power to the Burbank community.
How the Solar + Battery Project Works
The Benefits for Burbank
Backup Power
Provides enough backup power for 585 homes, or ~30 offices, or ~7 schools |
Grid Support
Reduces peak load stress on utility infrastructure, helping to prevent power outages. |
Cost Savings |
Allows BWP to draw from stored electricity when additional power is needed for Burbank instead of buying additional power with fluctuating prices.
Clean Energy |
The more renewables that are available, the more Burbank can reduce the use of fossil fuels.
Resilience |
Helps keep critical services running and recover quickly during emergencies such as power outages, wildfires, and heatwaves.
