Set your lawn mower blades higher. Set a blade height at 2 or 3 inches. Longer grass blades will reduce evaporation and shade the roots.

Most lawns benefit from deep, infrequent watering. Water deeply (about 1 inch) once or twice a week rather than frequent shallow watering. This encourages grass roots to grow deeper and makes your lawn more drought-resistant.
