AC Replace Before It Breaks Rebate Program
Frequently Asked Questions
The key requirements are:
a) It is a central AC or heat pump in operating condition.
b) It has an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 9 or less. Once again, the contractor will determine this for you as part of the process.
BWP has selected Proctor Engineering Group to administer the AC Replace Before It Breaks Program. Proctor Engineering Group has extensive experience consulting on and administering energy efficiency programs for the California Energy Commission and utilities throughout the country.
Proctor Engineering Group works to ensure that approved participating contractors meet the quality standards for service and installation, provides specialized training and will verify all necessary conformance with rebate requirements.
The table below provides an example, illustrating the potential rebates for installing a 3-ton AC unit, smart thermostat, and high-efficiency furnace.
1. There are air conditioning systems that are oversized for the home. This is an opportunity to install units that are the appropriate size.
2. Multi-Stage Capability allows for the HVAC system to adjust its power output depending on the temperature in the home.
3. Example assumes a 15 SEER AC, purchased in Burbank. See our Residential Rebate Program for more detail
Obtaining a permit helps to ensure that the location, wiring, and installation of your HVAC system is safe.
After the installation is complete, your contractor may require access to the inside of your home to verify the performance of the system. Only after this is done can your permit be finaled by Building and Safety Division.
Once your permit is finaled by the Building and Safety Division, your contractor will apply to Proctor Engineering Group for your rebate.
You can expect to receive your rebate check approximately 2-4 weeks after your permit is finaled.
