Save water with Faucet Aerators

AeratorsFaucet Aerators: Low flow aerators allow air to enter the water stream to provide good high pressure using less water.

When to Replace: If an aerator is already installed on your faucet, it will have its rated flow imprinted on the side in gpm (gallons per minute). For the bathroom consider installing a 1.0 gpm and for the kitchen consider a 2.0 gpm.

If no aerator is installed, check to see if there are threads just inside or outside the tip of the faucet. Most modern faucets are threaded to accept aerators.

WaterSenseBuying a New Bathroom Faucet: The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense® program provides a list of faucets that comply with the WaterSense® program water efficiency standards. Click the WaterSense logo for more information and a list of faucets.

Kitchen Faucet: Low flow kitchen faucet aerators need higher water flow than bathroom faucet aerators because kitchen faucets are used for different tasks such as effectively rinsing dishes. Also, if water flow is too low, you may be dissatisfied with the wait time when filling pots or containers. Consider a 2.0 gpm (gallon per minute) aerator for the kitchen.
