It’s Easy to be Green!
BWP offers a green energy program for all Burbank customers—Green Energy Champion!
Here’s what makes Green Energy Champion a great program:
- Open to everyone in Burbank, residents as well business customers.
- Offers Bronze, Silver and Gold commitment levels to choose from. Each level provides for a specific percent of your electric usage that will be green. You choose the amount that works best for you.
- Cost to participate is 2 cents per green kilowatt-hour of energy signed up for. That’s BWP’s cost to purchase green energy on your behalf, so you get exactly what you pay for.
- Provides renewable energy for our City!
So, how does Green Energy Champion Work?
Residents and businesses interested in supporting renewable energy can select from three options -- Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Every customer has an assigned electric rate. All residents are on the residential rate, but there are a few different business rates, based on their size. Regardless of your rate classification, you will still have the same three green program options open to you. However, each will have specific green energy percentage requirements. Each green kilowatt-hour signed up for would be billed at two cents above the existing rate. Two cents is simply BWP’s additional cost to provide renewable energy. Business customers would be required to show a corporate-wide commitment and designate all their City of Burbank electrical accounts to the program. Requiring a business to enroll all their accounts limits claims of being “green” by signing up for just one smaller account. With this requirement, BWP is striving for a program that is meaningful and equitable for all customers.
What’s it going to cost me?
Monthly cost is determined by which option you select and your energy usage. If you, like the average Burbank household, used 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy during the month and had selected the Bronze program, 15% of your total energy (or 75 kWh) would cost 2 cents more for a total of $1.50. If you signed up for the 60% Gold option, the cost would be $6 (60% of 500 kWh at 2 cents each).
