Frequently Asked Questions about Temporary Suspension of Solar Support Program Rebate Applications.

Why is the program not taking new applications?

The BWP Solar Support Rebate program continues to pay reserved rebates to previously approved solar applications. However, we were forced to stop accepting new rebate applications because the program’s overwhelming success led to full commitment of the fiscal year budget. This is the first time this has happened in the ten year history of the program. New residential and small commercial rebate applications below 30 kW will be taken again starting July 1, 2012.

Can I add my name to a waiting list?

BWP is not putting applications on a waiting list because prices for solar photovoltaic (PV) panels have been falling steadily in recent years. Since a signed contract is required, we do not wish to encourage customers to lock in current prices. Applications submitted through the on-line program PowerClerk after the program re-opens July 1, 2012 must be accompanied with a contract signed AFTER that date. We will review the applications, and rebates will be reserved on a “first-come first-served” basis until funding is exhausted. We will also require proof of down payment, such as a copy of a canceled check. We will not reserve funds for applications, contracts, or down payments that are dated and signed before July 1st 2012.

What will the rebate amounts be when the program re-opens for new applications?

BWP will review solar market conditions in the spring of 2012 to determine appropriate rebate levels. Please check back to the BWP website in June 2012.
